I need to make a beret for the nine-year-old's school report on France this coming Friday. It looks like the only measurements I can enter are for height and circumference. Before I print the pattern can someone please explain what these correspond to? Should the circumference be the head circumference of the wearer? What pattern piece does the height affect?

Circumference refers to the wearers head circumference. Height refers to the measurement from the top of the narrow band, to the start of the circle bit on top of the head, the piece that looks like a half circle with a bit taken out on the pattern picture. I'm not sure if these patterns and the WT Vintage include ease. I made a beret using the Vintage program, and after adding lining and interfacing, the hat was too small. Has anyone else found ease to be an issue?

Just opened the program and the ease on the beret band is .375, which would prabably be okay for one layer, or two thin layers of fabric, but I think if you started adding interfacing etc, then it would be a tight fit.

Thanks for the help. How did you find how much ease the pattern allows? What would need to be adjusted to increase the ease?

I went to full screen, which just shows the pattern. You can select lines and it will tell you what they measure. My head circumference is 22" and the line measured 22.325". I'm hoping that someone who knows a bit more about ease when there are a few layers of fabric, interfacing etc, will hop onto this thread!
