Anyone got tips on sewing string of sequins to knit fabric? Should I use a stabiliser and what stitch would you recommend? I have a foot for sewing on ribbon, so I guess this is the right one to use.

Thanks in advance

Sarah

I am by no means expert at this but I have sewn sequins onto leotards for dance wear. I tend to buy elasticized string sequins for ease of use other wise I will tack/pin them on while the garment is being worn to allow for stretch of the knit fabric before sewing. As to the foot ignore me here as I just use the regular foot and there must be a better one! I also use invisible thread and a zig zag stitch over the sequins.

Wear safety glasses. The needles can break and fly up and hit you in face. Also if it helps to sew in the right direction. I don't really know how to explain it but if you are sewing against the sequins they tend to bend up. If you sew in the right direction it goes smoother. Also use the biggest needle you can get that will help that is will not break as much. Use a zig zag stitch

Thank you Julie and Judy.

When sewing sequins to stretch fabric, do you need to use stretch thread as well? Does the zig zag go into the sequins or over them, kind of forming a tunnel?

Thank you

I do not use stretch thread. Also I just zig zag over the sequins sometimes it goes through the sequins and sometimes it goes over them. I don't put a lot of thought into it. Sometimes I have more trouble when I over analyze something instead of just doing it.
