Call me stupid, but I'm just not getting why you would do this via radial projection instead of looking at the pattern pieces and PE-ing them. Was there a project discussed that I don't know about? Christine (who is just in from a St. Patty's Day party and maybe that's why I don't understand the objective......)

ditto, none of these look like good candidates for radial projection.  most of them are simple PE projects and the ones that aren't are still not that complicated.

I am finding this an intriguing idea. My guess is these would be good to practice on even though a skilled PE-er could do them with PE drafting. Thanks for sharing Maryanne.

I think Marie-Anne is suggesting these might be good for practicing radial projection because the pattern pieces are clearly shown on the envelope. I really like the last one and will be trying it out in PE, but just as an exercise - I'm not sure how that style would look on a short plump person.

Since my PE skills are rudimentary at best, I'm really to try these using radial projection. Maybe we could have a projection-along? These patterns are beautiful!

If I understand Radial Projection, won't these pattern peices have to be changed in PE, anyway, because they have been drafted for the non-existent "standard" body? Just asking>

There is another thread in the 'vintage designs' section where Jeannine explains how she does radial projection using vintage patterns. She has an easier way to adapt them to her own size.

you adjust as you go.  you still have to tweak, just like with any pattern.

i think jeannine's method is more complicated than the one i use.

Rowena - it's true, mine is more complicated and I like yours better.

The reason I use mine at this point is because I have patterns with pieces where I wouldn't even know where to begin with measurements. For example, I have a 1950's pattern of a yoked Patsy Cline style top, but the yoke is really weirdly shaped. I'm not experienced enough yet to determine points on it and project from there, so by blowing them all up to approximately the same size, I can make a muslin and then manually adjust. Once I get a better eye, I'll streamline the process. For now, I really only use radial projection for stuff I can't do in PE. Most of these pics, I think I would try there first.

By the way, MarieAnne, I'm in love with the Simplicity blouse with the low back and bow. I am so going to be mocking that up. Thank you for the inspiration!

Have been away from Forum and sewing for 3 yrs, and so anxious to get back to making clothes that please ME. Delighted to see the VINTAGE thread and look forward to seeing more old patterns, when designers still produced beautiful clothes in which ladies actually felt pretty. Much of what I see offered now is more in the realm of shock costumes. Do not know about raidal projection . Is the beginning of this thread still on the Forum and how can I find it. I am REALLY out of touch.
Happy Easter to all.
