Hi All,

Tim Gunn of Project Runway fame was here in Nashville tonight at the Kate Spade store talking about spring fashions and accessories. Rowena and I were lucky enough to meet him and had our picture taken with him. He is incredibly funny and very nice. If you get the chance to see him, by all means do. It was well worth it.

On April 15th, he will be visiting my alma mater - Illinois State University, Normal IL - to emcee the senior student fashion show. Paul, Karen, and I are going to fly in and meet him again.

Great news - he announced that Project Runway will be returning to tv this summer on the Lifetime network. Yeah!

What fun! And how exciting! But even better is seeing you and Rowena standing up in the "real world"! Rowena you're taller then I imagined!

You luckies! How fun. I don't have cable so have never actually seen the program, but I follow it on Project Rungay (which is a lot of fun, and totally addictive). Can't wait to see how the "lost" season turns out. It's already in the can, but has not yet aired.

You both look great, and I miss seeing you!

this is the dress i wore, i made it a few weeks ago for a dinner party at a friend's house.  pattern from boutique as follows:

dress, midriff, waist darts only, single breasted--short sleeve with straight underarm seam, barrel cuff and mock tailored placket--shirt collar--gathered skirt.  ease 2-1-2.

i widened the midriff so that i could use the cool belt i found at a cheap store called "icing", and made the midriff panel the same width all the way around.  i gathered the darts in front but sewed them in back, and instead of gathering the skirt i pleated it and stitched the pleats to hip depth.  i used the straight sleeve and gathered it into the cuff.  also, i showed this to lisa, i never put in buttonholes or buttons from the bust up because i never button them.  :D

this dress was actually the muslin for a silk model, but i liked how it turned out and i plan to make more.  i used flat cotton for this one and when i told tim gunn that this was not my ideal fabric for this dress, he said, "well, you made it work!".  YIPPIE!  he said it was adorable and i looked stunning and i was so pleased to hear the master say that.

oh--coopie--i am not that tall--tim gunn is smaller than you think.  :D

Lovely dress Rowena and I have to agree with Coopie about being surprised at how tall you actually are! The other thing that surprised me on your dress was the shoulder width. I had always read that you like your seam quite high up on the shoulder and had assumed that you meant up on top of the shoulder, as opposed to at the end of it. Are the shoulders on this one representative of how you normally draft and wear them?

no, i was trying to imitate a lucy ricardo dress that was a more square across the shoulders and had a batwing thing going on under the arm, but i wanted set in sleeves.  this doesn't work.  :D   no biggie, i will fix it on the next one, but i had to at least try it to see how close i could get.  my body is clearly different from lucy's.  :D

It's so cute! And I love the new 'do, too, Rowena. Looks easy.

You, Karen, Lisa and I are so close in height--all within about an inch of one another. You are just slightly taller than average, I'd say.

Kudos for getting such nice comments from TG!!!

You do have great carriage.

I used to be taller, but I've been the incredible shrinking woman of late. Not as much as hubby, though.

Lisa, Paul and I went to a Tim Gunn event in Normal, Il.

I've have just about finished his book.  It's very fun.  He doesn't tell you want to wear, but talks about style in general.  Started me thinking about what is in my closet.

I have never worn ballet flats with jeans.  I wear tennis shoes, loafers styles and sandals.   So into the closet I went and pulled out my new flats.  Put on white jeans - yes it is still a month until memorial day, but I felt white went well with them, and then a black cotton knit sweater.  Added a necklace with a touch of red.  It was really cute - casual, but a bit dressy.

Did you see the recent article about Tim Gunn in People Magazine? They did a piece about his new book. It was interesting, and I'd kind of like to read the book, now. I wonder if I can get it on E book....

Well, all I really knew about him was that he really knew his stuff when it came to designing. On the show, he's usually serious, and seems rather stoic, to me. In the article, which I believe is an excerpt from his latest book, he opens up and talks about his childhood, and his severe depression, which lead to an attempted suicide. He has not had a boyfriend since 1982. That's a long time to be without a love. He says he's really happy to be alone. And you know, if he says he is...he probably is. I'm going to get the ebook and download it to my Droid. My love and I are going on a long road trip to the Oregon coast, (we reside in beautiful Coal Creek Canyon, CO) and I will have plenty of time to read.

Actually he ended up in fashion by accident.

He was originally hired in Parsons Admin dept.  When the head of the fasion design dept left, they sent him over to check out the department.  He found what they were teaching extremely out of date.  He was assigned the job of updating the department and he stayed on.

He is a wonderful speaker.

I had read that he is a sculptor by training. Don't remember where I read it, so it might be not be too accurate.

I have a very good friend whose daughter-in-law is the creative director for Kate Spade, Inc. Tim Gunn is her boss, being the Creative Director for Liz Claiborne, Inc. which owns Kate Spade. I told her that the next time she goes to NYC to babysit her GC, I'm going with and I will beg her DDIL (who is a doll) to introduce me to him. I LOVE him on PR, always honest with his comments, but kind. The judges this year have gone to mean school...
