Hi all,

I have been looking at this program for a number of years now and just became financially able to purchase it. I am testing out the design features on a dress and am trying to created a loose bodice over a gored, fitted skirt. I want the skirt to fit at the waist, the dartless bodice slightly gathered onto the skirt waist. When I change the waist ease in the design defaults, the skirt waist ease increases as well.

I am unsure at this point which setting I am missing or if this is something that I will have to modify in PE by doings a slash and spread on the bodice waist.

Any ideas?

In dress settings there is a setting for blousing and if you wanted the top wider so you coud gather it to the skirt, add waist darts and just gather them instead of sewing them as darts If you want more gathering you may have to go into PE.
Someone else may have better advise.

Is this the style you had in mind?

As your dart choice use blouson. You may want to drop the waist line a bit.

Yes, Jassnip, that is very similar to what I am looking for. Blousing through the width and in the torso length. What settings did you use, please?

My client is enthralled with fashion from the 1930's. I have made a few dresses for her from vintage patterns, some costing in the $100 range when you check the websites. I would like to be able to use PE to re-create these styles for her.

Yes, Patricia! That did the trick. Thanks to you and Jassnip for pointing me in the right direction. I have played with most of the selections however I suppose I missed that one. I guess it is time for me to go back and play with EVERY option.

Now where would I find the waistline gathering settings for the blouson top?

I would run gathering threads across both the front and back and then adjustthem to fit the skirt.

I am sorry, I realize I didn't make myself clear. Looking at the pattern pieces for that option, the bodice pattern has been either pivoted or slashed and spread to add that extra waistline fabric for gathering, right? I would have thought that there would have been some type of setting where you could adjust the amount of girth blousing (around the body, I mean to say) of that dart style. There doesn't seem to be any in the darts tab or any other tab I looked at.

I don't mean to be a pain asking all these newbie questions and I do appreciate your answers very much.

Your questions are not painful! With the red sloper turned on look at both waist dart and blouson . You can see that in the front the side dart is being transfered to the waist, no extra fullness is added. The back is slashed I believe from armscye to waist and pivoted to balance the front. THere is really not all that much extra added across the front.  I would want to look at a muslin before committing myself to a great deal more. Notice also that there is no extra length added at this stage. You would choose that in settings.

Patricia,

Thank you for your response. As I said, although I have been playing with the demo versions for the past 3 years, I just now was able to afford to buy and now am able to see all these features. It is going to take awhile to learn so any repetitive questions, please forgive.

My sister lives down in Noble. I don't get down there often but it is nice to see another Okie!
