Say you want to make a pattern piece 1" longer, for example a shirt or jacket front or back, and you cannot adjust any further in style editor.  If you use the scale tool to add the length by scaling down 1", will it change other dimensions of the pattern apart from length?

Yes it will change the dimensions of all selected objects. Scaling does not work for making pattern adjustments such as this. Use the locate point and move point tools instead.

I use Scale tool to lengthen a pattern exactly like on the commercial paper pattern
where the area to lengthen is presented on the pattern - as where to fold the paper with 1"
so you select for exemple the area on the upper arm part of the sleeve
and you reduce the length with 1" using Scale tool -exactly you folded the paper pattern with 1"
since we are familiar with paper commercial pattern from the beginnings of patternmaking.

Fortunately, the new tool in V6 will make this operation easier since we do not enter % but length to modify.
I suppose this tool will be named Calculate and Scale ( or Tunning tool, or Fitting tool, whatever )

Since there is no program that can match with with10 measurements
a body that requires 100 measurements to achieve perfection
such a tool is the very basic Autocad tool to increase a line or an area.
