I'll be in the Chicago area at the end of May. Of course I'll go to Vogue in Evanston. I have great memories of shopping there while in high school and college, but left Illinois in 1968. Any other good fabric stores north along the "gold coast" or further north as far as Milwaukee area?

My favorite store in Chicago is Fishman's Fabrics on Desplaines. Its actually down the street from the other Vogue fabric store.

I'm afraid not much is left except for Vogue and Fishman's (definitely worth a visit). Other than those, there are quite a few JoAnn's and Hancock's spread around. There are quite a few quilting stores, but they only carry cottons. You could search the yellow pages for those.

I live very near Evanston and still love Vogue, but it's really hit or miss there--sometimes lots of junk and not too much of the better quality goods like they use to carry.

Hopefully, it will be warmer by the end of May, but who knows after the winter we had!

I think fabric stores everywhere have lesser quality because most fabric is now made in China or thereabouts.....glad I have a stash to draw from!

Sorry to hear Vogue has lower quality fabric now, but not surprising. I used to buy great wool coordinates in the 60's, but sure don't need them in San Diego. Can't find any kind of coordinates now!

Unlike other parts of the country, we didn't even have a San Diego winter this year. It was in the high 70's and low 80's in January & February and less than 4" of rain all year, but I don't miss even a normal Chicago winter

Madison, WI has a fabric store called Gay feather fabrics. If you are in the area, I would be worth a look see.

there are great breweries in Madison too.
