Hi All,

This class will teach you the basics of creating color blocked fashion sketches and flats using freeware and tools available in Windows and Mac. While I will be illustrating these techniques with garment pictures, the tools and techniques work for any item including accessories, quilts, home dec, etc. For this class, you will need a screen capture tool and a graphics editing program. There are free tools that ship with both Windows and Mac so there is nothing to buy.

You can view this article in our Wiki at this link Wiki Article or download the article in PDF format at this link Color Blocking

Post your finished pics here for all to see.

Thanks Lisa!!

I just completed a baby quilt and I found this tool very helpful with color placement.

I used the Pretty In Pink quilt design which I found at Annie's Catalog.  I studied the design, and then I created the pattern for it in Pattern Editor.

The embroidery designs are from Designs by Juju.

Hi Lisa

Paintbrush is not an Apple app, but is available from SourceForge. It can be downloaded here:

Thank you for the tutorial. I seldom use thist technique so when I do, I have to relearn it. Now I can just reference this tutorial and I'm all set.
