I know that it's possible to change the color of the lines in Pattern Editor, but is it possible to change the color of the space created between the lines?  For instance, if I created a rectangle, can I fill the rectangle with blue?

If this isn't currently possible, then is it something that you would consider adding to the program in the future?

I have been using PE to design quilts, and it would be so nice to be able to experiment with color placement.

Thanks,

 Jill

Can you just fill the blocks in Paint? I tried that but it was sloppy. Is there a tool that does it better than the brush?

Jill, use the paint bucket "fill", instead of a brush. It colors in everything inside of whatever lines you place your cursor in.

Paint is a great tool for coloring. I use it all the time with images I have saved from Pattern Editor. I created the illustrations for the guide sheets this way. The bucket tool is definitely the way to go if you have a closed boundary. If you have even one pixel open on the boundary you are trying to fill, it will spill out though. Save the image in PE as a .png. After you save the image from PE, open it in Paint and zoom in and look at each boundary. If you have any openings, use the line tool to add pixels to close it. Then use the bucket tool to fill.

Thanks Karen and Lisa. My daughter just dropped by and she played around with it until she figured it out for me.

This is what she did and it seems to work great...

Enlarge the picture on the screen in Pattern Editor and take a screen shot of it. Then save that as a .PNG file to the desktop and then open it with MS Paint. The full spectrum of colors seems to be available and the bucket tool works just fine.

I'm going to have fun playing with this!

You can save PE as a JPEG in the program.

We tried that but we weren't able to fill the blocks with the bucket tool as a jpeg. It would only fill portions of the blocks with color. Saving it as a png file allowed us to fill the blocks.

PNG, BMP, and JPG formats are all slightly different. The JPG format will sometimes save with slightly different colored pixels (various shades of white or light gray) so you cannot use the bucket tool. The PNG format is cleaner and definitely works better than JPG.

FYI, you can save from PE in the PNG format. When you choose File/Save As, drop down the file type box and you will see PNG listed there.

OUUU....This is FUN!!!   I did  save as .png;  "save to" -not the PM file, but to "Desktop" (Because it's easier to find);  right double click to "open with",  and choose "Paint".

I'm sure this is duh... to other people, but I assume there are also people like me. So there!!!

Have fun!

Tessa
