I'm going to be in Manhattan in October with my daughter.  She won't have the patience for me to spend much time fabric shopping. Mood is a must, since she enjoys Project Runway.  Please suggest some other shops that I should go to.  I don't want to spend a fortune, so I'd like to find a few places with reasonable prices.

 Thanks everyone!

 Jill

The easiest way to find the fabric (and trim, and button, and notion) stores is to visit Mimi's blog:
shopthegarmentdistrict.com
She has a fantastic resource list with addresses, maps and everything.
Just a note: the sketchiest places are usually the cheapest places. Pretty much everything is negotiable. Don't expect nice, wide aisles and organized stock. Oh, and you MUST visit Metro Textiles (265 W 37th, 9th floor) and get to know Kashi. He is a doll.
And have FUN!! Bring a rolling bag and wear comfy shoes.

I don't think you can go to Metro and NOT get to meet Kashi!  The place is packed and the prices are good. Kashi will happily ship your purchases for you so you don't have to slog around the city with a huge bag.  (There is always a huge bag...)

W. 39 is good. Check Patron where you'll find good bargains for high quality fabrics. You'll see lots more stores to go in. W 38, 37 also great! Have fun and do take Wilmoed's advice.
