Can anyone recommend a tutorial for lining a sleeveless dress that covers the question of how you sew together dress and lining at CB zipper? I've seen two different methods--one where you sew the shoulder seams first and one where you sew them last--but neither of these discusses what to do about the zipper.

Thanks,
Nancy

I would hand sew the lining around the zipper. That way you have total control.

Craftsy is offering a free zipper class right now.  There is a section dealing with a zipper installation in a lined garment.

I let lining hang free at zipper.

I sew the shoulder seams.  then armhole and neck.  Then pull the back (open at center back) through the shoulders.

Then put in zipper and sew side seams.

You might also want to look at this tutorial on a blog of the Dedicated House Fiancee if you haven't seen it:

I like Karen C's advice for letting the lining hang loose for a regular zipper and then tacking lining to zipper by hand, but have tried this method for the invisible zipper. I think the invisible tutorial may be what I am seeing in RTW.

Many thanks, all! I wound up doing something like the invisible zip in the tutorial. Hand stitching might have been a pain on a stretchy knit lining. Anyway, it went in OK, and I'm almost ready to mail it, barely in time!

Thanks again!
