I copied the collar and front band from Butterick 5034, and I copied the sleeves from a blouse that I bought at Penneys.  I'm very happy with how it turned out.  It's much more comfortable than the blouse from Penneys.

Very nice! The sewing on the collar looks perfect and I love the sleeve detail. How much width was taken out at the sleeve cuff with the pleats?

Jill, what a pretty blouse! That looks like a pattern that you can make over and over using different fabrics. No one will ever know it is the same pattern.

Thanks everyone.

I was very happy with the settings for the collar on this one.

Convertible collar
Straight styleline
Collar point width 1
Collar point spread 1
Collar width 2.5
No band

As for the sleeve...

Full cap
Cap ease 1.23
Cap height 0

I ended up with a rather full sleeve at the hemline. I hadn't planned on putting that tuck in when I started out, but I like how it looks. 1 1/2 inches of hem width was removed with the tucks.

I wasn't crazy about that loud print at first, but it's growing on me.

Do you think that I should make the next one a little longer?

Jill

It is hard to tell in the picture, because you are wearing capris, but, I would say you might need to make it shorter. I know this is hard. I have had a hard time going with shorter tops as the styles have changed. I do think it makes a difference to get your/our tops the right length so that we look like we have longer legs which makes us look taller.

Yesterday, I wore a top that was a little longer than I usually wear now and I felt uncomfortable. A few years ago, it would have been the perfect length. So, it is mostly a personal preference.

Well I always like tops a bit on the long side. And if you use a shirt hem---curved up on the sides a bit ---it tends to make the leg look longer.
And of course I really love the print! THe sleeve is great!

What a cute, summery blouse, Jill. Love what you did with the sleeves, that makes it so much more special.

Thanks for the settings, and for the info. re sleeve tucks! What was the sleeve hem circumference (before tucks)?

I bet that sleeve is comfortable to wear, too.

Thanks again everyone. I'm out of town until Sunday. I will check the measurement of the sleeve hem when I get home.

I'm going to try adding a little flare to the side seams next time and shape the hem. I will add another 1/2 inch or so in length too.

Hi Jill

My sister's visit is sadly coming to an end so catching up on emails etc.

Love your blouse. Beautiful design, sewing is so exact around the collar and the fit looks great. Love the print too.

Thanks for positng your settings. I've never tried a convertible collar before so may make it my next project.

Re length on blouse. The last blouse I made was long...past my derriere. Wore it on vacation with tights just below my knees. Got a lot of "looks" from women (and men ) I'm going to flatter myself and chalk it up to fact they liked the look. I certainly did. My sister suggested I could make another one longer and wear it with tights down to my ankles. I say go for it try differnet lengths and see what you like.

I do not think that I would look so great in tights Maria, but thanks for the suggestion.

Nancy, the sleeve hem circumference is 18.628 minus the 1 1/2 inch tuck = 17 1/8"  My goal for this blouse was that it be quick to make and comfortable, and it is both.

Here is another version of it with a little flare added, an extra 1" in length, and a shaped hem.  I think that it's more flattering, but I'm curious to find out what all of you think.  I don't always make the best choices with my clothes.

Jill

I like this one even more! Using the curved hem would probably allow you to straighten the side seam a bit for a "man's shirt " look. Try it a bit longer-- and with longer pants. You can always cut it off! Great job! Coopie

I like the longer length, but not the flare. When I use the shaped hem, I reshape the hip in PE.

Love the color and I'm personally very partial to curved hems -- helps make the legs look longer, so I'm told.  An even spiffier look for you (balance-wise) might be to keep the curved hem but shorten the blouse a bit and pair it with longer pants.  I also agree that less flare on the blouse is better than more.  Otherwise, fantastico!
