I drafted a neckline princess sheath in November which I've worked on periodically.  I got back to it this week,

Here is the inspiration for my dress, except I ruffled it a bit.  I did not want my dress to be sleeveless.

What a beautiful design. I've never tried the neckline princess, thinking it wouldn't suit me but I am going to try your style. Would you mind giving a bit more detail on how you drafted the ruffled collar. Just brief details - I will probably draft by hand, not PE.

Thanks

Thanks Cate!

I'm going to try to finish the dress today.

I drafted this in November, so I'm going to have to go back and refresh my memory on how I drafted the collar. I'll post details later.

What a beautiful dress. I want a "Sunday Dress" like this. With just a plain jacket to wear with it. I have a piece of "special fabric" I have been saving a few years that I think would be wonderful made with this pattern. That is if I can force myself to cut it. You know how those "special fabric" pieces are. They are for dreaming not cutting. Maybe I should try something cheaper first.

I know just what you mean. I have several pieces of silk crepe that I can't make myself cut.

Wow - that is gorgeous! And original! Again, I love your choice of  fancy fabric for the body of the dress, not to mention the ruffle.

For that special fabric always do a muslin first.

Thanks everyone. I finished the dress yesterday, and I put together a tutorial on how to make it. You can find it here:

https://picasaweb.google.com/111009806938066958958/NecklinePrincessD...

I have to warn you. I'm figuring all of this out as I go along. There is probably an easier way to do this.

I drafted with a side dart because I wanted to control the placement of the neckline dart

Here is my summary, and you can see pictures in my album shortly.

One more thing, I used a side zipper, not a back zipper.

Thanks so much! I hope that someone who knows more about drafting than I do will tell me if I did this right.

If it fits you beautifully and looks amazing on you, then you drafted it "right". :D

Jill, do you still have the tutorial for this beautiful dress?  I tried the link but there's nothing there  at Picasa (presume you took it down after a while).  Thx.

Hi Maryann,

I apologize for not responding sooner. I don't go on the forums as often as I used to. Luckily a friend told me that you asked about it.

I've worn that dress several times and have received quite a few compliments on it.

Here's the link:

I'll check back to make sure that you were able to access it.

Jill,

Your sketches showing how your dress draft proceeded were great and very informative.  I enjoy the mechanics of seeing how drafts come together.  The end product was a standout.  Thanks so much for the link.
