I've been thinking about you and your husband so often over the past few days, and am sending my prayers.

Today DH was taken off the respirator and He is breathing well on his own. He may be moved to a private room later in the week. Alas poor man still hasn't uttered a sound. My sons are not wanting to admit that a nursinghome will be necessasary because I will need to work full time still. I see a lawyer on Thursday to talk about a guardianship arangment, and handling the finances the best way in light of the current medical climate. This is so hard.

DH is in surgery getting a feeding tube inserted through his abdominal wall. He will go to a facility for rehab in a day or two. I must try to figure out how to be able to bring him home and still work 32+ hours per week.

It has been a tad over 2 months since Ronnie's stroke and I wanted to post an update on his progress. He has regained the use of his right arm and leg and is able to walk without any assistance. He can perform many self care tasks but needs help still with some. This week he has been given the go ahead to drink watery liquids and is no longer on a soft diet. He drank his first diet Dr. Pepper and drained every drop. He has not regained his ability to speak and is diagnosed with aphasia and apraxia. We are trying to come up with a used computer and software to use in his therepy. He is not a computer loving man so may not be able to accomplishthe use of educational software. He will be in rehab at least another month much to his disssapointment. Please continue to pray for him and pray that we find the correct lap top computer and software. I still visit here but havn't sewn since Jan 23. I so long to be back at home and back to a "normal life". I am back working 4 days a week and am oncall this weekend so I cant visit Ronnie, this weekend, as he is 2 hours away. God has provided our needs. A neighbor came over to look at some things that we must change or repair before he comes home. The man is going to do the work free of charge except for the price of the materials.

Grandma C, glad to hear tht your DH continues to improve and sending positive thoughts your way that this continues. I'm sure a laptop will come your way just as a good neighbour has been provided for you. Remember to take care of yourself too at this busy, worrying time.

Glad that you have such a neighborly neighbor....must be an emotional support as well as a practical one.

Rather glad to hear that your DH is getting more rehab...sometimes it's just time that is needed...

Hope your friends at work and in the community are helping you too.

A friend at work volunteered to help with his speach therepy after he comes home. We are getting a lot of emotional support and God is so far sheltering me from any devastating financial problems. My employer has been graceous and is allowing tardies and unplanned for absenses to go by without reprimanding me. I have been known to lay down on the bed next to my husband when he is resting and take myself a little nap. I get him to waltz in the activity room or wherever the mood strikes me. His balance is improving every day and today DS took him to Cracker Barrell for dinner and he pointed to trout on the menue to indicate what he wanted to eat. That is a first!!! We have had a hard time getting him to do any sort of sign language to indicate what he wants to do so I am to know he is beginning to find an alternative to speaking.

G-C, with the communication Try 'Signing Time, with Alex & Leah' Rachel uses ASL, and shows the basics, and more. You well find that presentation stick with you. You can start with the baby signs, the wants & needs. Many Libraries have the DVD's to lend, there are many on YouTube . Singing cuts down the frustration about communication, for what is wanted & needed, and emotions, for ones that are deaf, baby, tots, those with speech & who have lost their speech. ~ kd

Hi everyone! I just wanted to tell you all that your prayers for my husband, were answered in the affirmative. DH will walk out of the rehab facility on May 2, under his own steam without assistance. He is not yet 100% but has made tremendous progress. He has no paralysis and has been walking over 2 miles at least 4 days a week. He has lost a good bit of weight but actually looks pretty good because of it. Thanks anyone who has offered a prayer for him/us. Please continue to pray. When he gets home, we will travel about 6 hours a week to outpatient therapy for speech and occupational rehab. He speaks some but is considered aphasic and has apraxia.
Belinda.
