I got a nice HP 7500A wide format (13 x 19)Office Jet printer for Christmas.  I have downloaded the owner's manual and searched for the bigger format paper on line.  What I am finding is that the larger format paper is specialty paper for photos and brochures and the like and not suitable for patterns.  Also it is very expensive.  I found only one outlet for regular bond paper in the 13 x 19" size, but it was too heavy for patterns (60 lb. weight).  Naturally, I am very disappointed.  Before I return the printer, I thought I would seek advice on here. Does anyone know where I can get the standard weight white bond paper for ink jet printers in the 13 x 19" size?  If I end up exchanging the printer, what would be a good choice of printers for larger paper format printing?  I guess I could print on legal sized paper, but that doesn't really gain me much over what I use now, which is the standard 8.5 x 11" 20 weight bond.

I buy from Graytex. Have been moderately successful wit the 13 inch wide roll paper by feeding manually through the back. See http://www.graytex.com/roll-paper.htm. They also carry 18lb TRANSLUCENT bond paper that is 13x19. http://www.graytex.com/b-size-paper.htm. Definitely more expensive than other papers, but nice to work with. The website isn't organized very well, but they have good customer service. They'll give a discount I' you bulk order .. can't guarantee it, but worth asking.

I've had the HP 9600 and now the 9800 for over 5 years and they've bee workhorses. Good luck.

I bought some at staples some time ago. When I get home this weekend I'll check the info on it.

Same here, the 11x17 size at Staples is one of the cheapest. Works just fine. I imagine that Office Depot & Office Max also has a 'store name' brand of copy paper too.

I appreciate the helpful comments, but if I am going to use the legal sized paper, 11" x 17," which is readily available, then  I might as well turn in the printer for a less expensive one.  My preference is to find a source for 20 lb. white bond in the larger format.  Thanks for all your help, though.  This forum was the first place I thought of for input to a solution for the paper search, and I am glad I posted on here.  I just may use the source Patti suggested above, but I am hoping to find some a little less expensive first.

StMike, please don't confuse legal size paper (8 1/2 x 14) with tabloid size (11 x 17). I use tabloid size with my printer and find it quite satisfactory. Legal size paper wouldn't, in my opinion, be sufficient; whereas tabloid is twice the size of letter paper.
HTH.

Thanks for the clarification!  I just was not tracking correctly with these paper sizes.  I am going to buy some tabloid size today and see how it goes.

Hi Mike,

I use letter paper format
to reduce the paper consumed
for areas not filled with pattern lines.

Does your HP 7500A have the option to print borderless format?

Cristina

Yes, it can print borderless.  Will that make a difference in the output for patterns?

Let me know how your printer quality turns out. I between buying a plotter and a wide face printer. I would like to know if the quality is just as good as a plotter.

My printer can print borderless only on letter format.
Borderless option makes joining the papers easier.

Here are some review about the features of HP 7500A:

I also have a question:
I have a problem with printing thin and thick lines in design
since when I print they both get printed as thin lines.
Can anyone advise me on this aspect?

Thanks, Christina. I have the printer mostly set up and it is printing just fine. The only thing I have found to be an annoyance is that the paper size selection menu does not include the 13 x 19 paper format. It prints with no problems on 11 x 17, except that the upper and lower margins are too wide. I have not figured out how to fix that yet. Today, I am going to print out a pattern and then measure it by hand to see if I a getting an accurate print out.

I resolved all of the problems with paper and printing. Everything is working just great. The printer does support the 13' x 19" paper size; I just had to figure out what that was called in the drop down menu, which has a couple dozen paper names to understand. Turns out it is called Super B or Super A3 or A3+ depending on where you look for information. HP driver files include the Super B name. I learned a lot more about paper sizes than I ever wanted to know. Turns out the US is about the only country with no overall and universally used standards for paper sizes. So, you really have to dig to find out just what the US paper size equivalents are world wide. And then, they are not always exactly the same dimensions due to metric conversions, just close enough to live with.<br />

I purchase one today since qvc has it on easy pay. I was tired of typing the 8 x 10;especially when you had multiple pieces to print.

Not all printers support printing thick lines. My HP LaserJet 2200 cannot print bold or thick lines. It is not capable of it.

So far, this is the best price I have found. Still with shipping, the cost for 850 sheets (20 lb.) is over $60. Someone suggested I try Kinkos to see if they sell it.

I have not ordered the larger paper yet. I intend to; just have not got to it yet. Meanwhile, I am having good results with the tabloid size.

My husband found 11 x 17 inch paper in our local Staples (in Canada). Very nice! It's a nice improvement over 9 x 11!
