My computer died today.  I am looking to find a printer that is capable of customize printing up to 33 or 44 lengths of paper.  Some of you have mentioned printers that have this capability previously, but I am not  able to find those models.  No one at the stores seem to be able to tell me whether their models can do this.  What function or capability do I have to see the printer has to be able to print a continuous sheet of paper in these lengths?  Also, does it mater how the paper is to feed?

Barb

Ps have any of you bought that type of printer recently/

Barb, I am interested in the answer to this also. Thanks for posting. I have seen some wide format printers at Staples . Best Buy has even had some on sale in the past year.

Grandma C, I am not even sure about those. I think with the wide format you can print 13x17?. But I do not know if you are capable of printing longer

I think someone on here had to get the printer model numbers and call the tech support at the printer manufacturer and was able to find out the information from them. It is a paint o have to shop and then call with the #s but shop online and then call them with the questions you have.

My Epson printer will customize paper sizes up to 44 inches in length. If you go to the Epson website, then you can find it under specifications. Epson was the only brand that I could find that would do it. The quality isn't nearly as good as my canon printer, but I don't mind since this is such a big time saver with PMB patterns.

Try to pick one that feeds from the back because sometimes the paper doesn't feed as well when it's folded. If they don't still have a model like that then get the side feeding kind.

You have to separate the paper into the right size sections. I have custom sizes that I programmed for 22, 33, and 44.

I'll do a little research on the Epson site and post again in a few minutes.

I checked on the Epson site and quite a few of them will print 44 length. I'm looking at the all in one models.

When you go to specifications, then look where it says paper handling.

This would be a good one since it feeds from the back. They may have others that do that too, but I didn't check

I got a good deal on mine at Staples, so you may want to check there to buy it.

Good luck! I know that you will love having this feature!

Tessa, I am going to use old dot matrix paper and tear off the edges and use 4 sheets. Is this the answer to your question?
I just ordered the printer on line tonight from Staples for 69.00 (free shipping).. It is supposed to come in 2 days (we'll see).

Jill, I purchashed the printer you suggested in your post. I am trying to set up the printer to print my 3 or 4 pages .I go in under custom design and change to my length . In PMB I choose print by page and hilight 3 pages The printer prints 3 pages but only has a part of the pattern on one page. Is there a step by step procedure I should be following to get it to print on all 3 pages that I have selected? Barb

Not sure about your printer, but I have used banner. I select the desired length and width. The pattern on screen should then be shown in pages the size you select. I found it easier with banner to select one banner page at a time since I had to manual feed.

Barb,

You need to select the custom paper size in printer properties and then PMB automatically formats to that size.

I usually print one long page at a time (22,33 or 44). It's easier that way.

Let us know how you like it.

I posted that last response 3 years ago.

Has anyone had good luck with a printer that will print longer lengths using fanfold or banner paper?

If so, then please post the make and model numbers here.

My Epson WF-3520 will print up to 44 inches in length, but the paper shifts as it prints, so I'm not happy with this machine. Don't waste your money on that one!

I purchased a Brother MFC-J4420DW at Office Depot yesterday for $99. It won't print the longer lengths (22,33,44), but it will print ledger size paper which is 11 x 17. I printed a pattern last night, and all of the registration marks were intact on all 4 corners of each page, so that's good. You can only put one page in the manual feeder at a time, so that takes a little more time. I don't know that printing each 11 x 17 page individually is saving me time compared to printing 8 1/2 x 11 all at the same time and then taping them together. I'm not fond of taping, so I'll keep this printer unless someone can recommend a better one.

Karen, which banner printer do you use?

Thanks for your help.

It seems paper expense is a problem with larger paper....so I compromised and got a laser printer (B&W only, low cost per page) and use legal paper (buy bulk at Costco) and then use glue instead of tape (Tombo Mono Aqua that comes with fine tip dispenser). I can put patterns together quickly and efficiently. I find it very tedious to use PDF's downloaded that only allow 8 1/2x 11" paper. I'm spoiled by Wild Ginger legal sized paper patterns.

It's a Brother HL-5140....probably not made anymore...I like Brother...decent quality and I think less expensive. I also have a Brother inkjet-- MFC 240C and Brother sewing machine and serger. I print legal size on the laser and letter size on the inkjet. I have choices!
Call me a fan!

I'm a fan of their products too. I had a Brother sewing machine with an embroidery attachment that I loved. That machine had more bells and whistles than many high priced machines, and it sewed like a dream. I got a new machine only because that one was too small.

I've used HPs wide format printers (up to 13x19) for many years and love them. They sell online and most stores for about $130. Paper is a little more expensive, but it has come way down over the years. Search for either 13x19 or wide format paper.

I couldn't find an HP wide format printer in the $130 price range at this time. But, they go on sale quite often, so I'm probably just looking at the wrong time.

Patti and Sue - Do your printers accept 13 x19 paper in the cassette tray, or do you have to feed them one at a time manually from the rear? Please post the model numbers.

FYI, if anyone else is interested...

I found an Epson wide format printer (WF-7610) that prints up to 13 x 19, and it will allow user defined lengths up 47". It's $150 at Office Depot and Amazon, so not a bad price at all. Unfortunately it's too big for my table. The machine measures 20" front to back, 23" wide and 13" H. I was unable to determine if it would accept 13 x 19 paper in the cassette tray.

I also found a Brother machine (MFCJ5620) which will accept up to 5 sheets of 11 x 17 paper in the cassette tray. It measures 13.6 deep, 19.3 wide, and 9.4 high. I don't believe that it will allow longer lengths in the user defined settings for fanfold paper. It's $115 at Amazon right now.

Look up the HP 7612. Nice machine. Replacement Ink cartridges are a little pricey.

I just looked up the cost of the paper---do you really pay over $50 for a ream? That seems outrageous!

No, I buy the tabloid size at Staples for around $20. or less for a ream I think. The 500 sheets ream lasts a long time for patterns as you use fewer sheets. It is more expensive than the smaller paper.
