I bought a Panasonic KX-P1150 9-pin dot matrix printer from Amazon. It did not have an installation disk with it. I couldn't get it to work on my computer, so my grandson tried. He couldn't either. He said the printer needs a 32-bit operating system and that I'm running a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Is there a way to make this work? or can someone recommend another printer?

I assume he checked on Panasonic's web site for an appropriate driver for that printer and computer?

Yes, he did.
I don't understand the "32 bit" and "64 bit" thing. But I remembered that at one time there was a discussion on the forum about that.

You could design on Windows 7 64 bit
store the design on a memory stick
and insert it into a 32bit computer that is always connected to the printer.
Usually you can use one PM licence on two computers.

The 32 bit - 64 bit was not an issue with Pattern Master. It will run on either. The problem that was taken care of several years ago was the auto install on old CD's. Had nothing to do with the actual program.

No, it's not the WG programs. We can't get the printer to work with my computer.
And I'm not sure what other printer I should try.
And it's especially annoying because I can't just go to the store and talk to someone in person anymore because the stores don't carry dot matrix printers. I have to order via internet, wait for it to come and now send it back and reorder.
But you all know that. I'm just griping!

I was just hoping that some of you experts might know some way to make it work.

Can anyone tell me a specific dot matrix printer that I can buy that will work with my computer?
I have a Toshiba satellite with Windows 7.

Pat,

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have another option for you.

Taping individual sheets of paper got old fast, so I bought an old dot matrix printer a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I had nothing but trouble with it. I trashed it and bought an Epson printer from Staples. It will print 11", 22", 33" and 44" length paper sizes. I use the fan fold paper that I bought for the dot matrix printer, and tear off the sides and then I separate the paper into 2, 3 or 4 page sections. I've learned that I shouldn't choose the DRAFT or fast print commands, because it prints too fast and the patterns aren't accurate. But it prints just fine when I use standard print speeds. The standard print speeds are still much much faster than the dot matrix printer.

The model that I bought feeds from the back. The ones that are on Staples website now feed from a drawer. The specs show that they will print up to 44" lengths, so just place the folded sections in the drawer.

If you decide to go this route, please post a review of the printer that you select.

Here's a link to Staples. Double check the specifications before you buy to make sure they print up to 44 inch lengths.

Jill,
I had a good experience with an old dot matrix. A friend found me one at a yard sale for $2. I used it for 6 1/2 years with no problems. It was great for the WG programs and I only went through two ribbons in that time. These HP printers seem to use more ink than they used to.
Anyway, I'm going to spend a bit more time trying to find a dot matrix that will work.
Thanks for the info about the Epson. I may have to go that way.
