This is the 10th anniversary of our membership in the Smithson Society, and I've made another gown to wear to this Saturday's black tie gala. The fabric was purchased two weeks ago in New York, and the design was really dictated by the limitations of the beaded lace. The underdress is a simple princess-seam sheath; the overdress is an empire-waist dress with a gathered skirt.

I didn't have to make a matching tie and cummerbund for Bob because he won't be able to go to the gala this year; he has to be in Chicago for a board meeting. So I am bringing a friend with me (who also sews with PMB, and is in the process of making her own dress!).

More pictures and details on my blog.

Hi Welmoed

I love this dress! I'm visiting England at the moment and went the the Titanic exhibit in Southampton. Your lovely gown is a modern reflection of the style of that time. Well done!

Lovely gown.  Looks Edwardian and very different from your usual.

The dress is absolutely stunning!  It's my favorite one of all so far.  The design details are perfect and the color is wonderful on you.  I'm glad I visited the site today--I so look forward to seeing your annual Smithson creation.

That's the prettiest dress so far, Welmoed! Beautiful, feminine, and the colors are very flattering.

Very different look from most evening gowns, but absolutely gorgeous! I'm sure you were a standout at the ball!
