Can anybody recommend lined vent instructions "for dummies"? I have looked at YouTube, sewinglawyer, and a book on sewing linings, & still can't figure it out. Has to work with PMB pattern with a 2" wide vent. Can't alter pattern at this point. Have coat mostly assembled & lining sewn in at front/neck seam and at sleeve bottoms.
1. I realize that for the underlap I just sew the right sides together in a normal width seam. But for the overlap, all instructions say I have to trim a piece off the lining. How do I calculate how much? Is it width of vent, minus seam allowance, or twice width of vent, minus seam allowance? something else?
2. I can't figure out how the thing is going to go together--seems all twisted. All the pictures show fabric lying nice & flat.
3. Do I hem coat & bag the lining before sewing the vent, or afterwards?

Thanks, Kirsten. This is a GREAT link for actual sewing, though it took me three tries to figure out how to draft the pattern that's used in the video. Requires thinking inside out and backwards--the part of the IQ test I always flunked flat. Am hoping I've got it right now; we'll see after I've actually made the jacket.
